Step 3 : Climate reporting

Firms are expected to follow the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) framework when reporting on their climate metrics and risks. This forms part of the NZFSPA commitment requirement and will ensure consistency and comparability across the organisation that will allow BDO to publish a global climate disclosure in due course.

📑 What is the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD)?

The Financial Stability Board (FSB) established the TCFD to develop recommendations for more effective climate-related disclosures. The international task force is led by Michael R. Bloomberg, and includes providers of capital, insurers, large non-financial companies, accounting and consulting firms, and credit rating agencies. The Task Force also has more than 4,000 supporters from 101 jurisdictions around the world.

The TCFD has developed a framework to help organisations more effectively disclose climate-related risks and opportunities through their existing reporting processes. The recommended disclosures are structured around four thematic areas that represent core elements of how organisations operate.

In July 2023, it was announced that the IFRS Foundation’s International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) will take over responsibility for monitoring progress of companies’ climate-related disclosures from the Financial Stability Board’s (FSB) Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) as of 2024.
