SHORT VERSION: I've lost count.

I couldn't accept that the s**t-show most people (including me) call "workflow" is "how it has to be". I wouldn't accept the creative process as a magical "black box" that can't be explained. I didn't accept that this mysterious "force" should not be touched in case it was ruined. You wouldn't believe the number of rude and abusive emails I've had over the last decade. All because I dared question this sacred cow.

But through ongoing experimentation and improvement, I’ve discovered many 100s of different ways to make music. Almost none I've seen mentioned anywhere else. Going to base principles, questioning everything, and always assuming there's a better way has made this abundantly clear:

"Best practice" is the worst practice.

You see, while the intentions behind “best practice” are noble, at the core of best practice is a deference to an unquestioned authority. This is the biggest brake on your progress (and all human progress.)

So through I will share the biggest 10 breakthroughs I've had in 10 years of coaching. These breakthroughs challenge basic assumptions about music. They question accepted wisdom. And they suggest better ways forward than “best practice”.
