9. Familiarity

Ensure players feels familiar with language, iconography and patterns by using real world meanings and representations.


This will help everybody and particularly players with visual and cognitive disabilities.
This section is still work in progress, but you can reference to the example below to better grasp its meaning.
A screenshot of BrawlStars showcasing a Mexican luchador brawler. The text "he throws a flurry of punches at this ennemies. His Super is a leaping elbow drop that deals damage to all caught underneath" is a good practice of the familiarity heuristic.
In Brawl Stars, El Primo Super illustrates well the familiarity heuristic as it takes one of the most iconic attack from luchadors (elbow drop). The overall character description is short and written in natural language (no stats).
