Professional Statement
I earned my Bachelor of Social Work from The Catholic University of America in 2019, where I discovered a passion for prevention work, mental health, and addressing youth homelessness. My professional interests have consistently focused on mezzo- and macro-level work to create supportive environments, particularly through prevention, community mental health, and innovative service delivery models. My values include a commitment to service, a recognition of every individual’s inherent dignity and worth, and the importance of presence when working with a community. My personal experiences navigating the intersection of Catholic and queer identities have significantly informed my professional commitment to fostering welcoming and affirming spaces for all individuals.
Professional Experience
My early professional experiences began with consulting on Arizona’s Medicaid landscape, specifically supporting the application and implementation of the Arizona Complete Care Plan within an Arizona Healthcare Cost Containments (AHCCCS) health plan and collaborating with community health centers to integrate the Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic model. Post-graduation, I further expanded my skills through diverse roles. At Solari, I worked on a specialized national crisis line addressing substance use challenges and managed the grievance and appeals process for individuals navigating Serious Mental Illness (SMI) determinations. Additionally, as a school social worker, I facilitated the creation of Individualized Education Plans, led community-building efforts, coordinated school-wide educational events, and supported families managing complex social-emotional challenges.
MSW & Practicum Experience
My MSW program significantly enriched my professional skill set and competencies through two practicum placements. In my foundation-year internship with the Maricopa Association of Governments within the Continuum of Care, I developed strong competencies in grant writing and community facilitation, frequently leading large-scale participatory governance events. My concentration-year internship with NAMI Valley of the Sun expanded my expertise in executive administration, strategic planning, nonprofit advocacy, fundraising beyond grant writing, and board relationship management. Through the MSW program’s coursework, I refined essential professional skills, particularly enhancing my grant writing capabilities, deepening my understanding and practical application of participatory action principles such as "nothing about us without us," and equipping me with the program evaluation techniques necessary to improve service delivery effectively.
