Croeso

We want to transform this tired, unwelcoming bridge into a fresh, exciting and colourful gateway into our vibrant capital city.
Dan Green

Creating a new landmark for the city

The bridge at the junction of Newport Road and Queen Street is viewed by thousands of residents, commuters and tourists everyday and should engage, excite and represent our city positively. A bilingual public artwork that reflects the best the city has to offer.

Designed by the people

We propose to create a permanent piece of artwork using local, designers, illustrators and artists inspired by different aspects of the city. We believe strongly in supporting the creative industries and so these would be paid commissions, to design a single letter or pair of letters.

For the people

We want the people of Cardiff to submit their ideas of what deserves a place in the final design. This would be an open invitation to share what makes the city special for them. We think this a great way to engage the public in the process early on and will provide rich content for promoting the project as it progresses.

Young and old

We would like to create a schools engagement pack and lesson plans that could include resources for students to design their own “Croeso” bridge. We think there are many subject links that could be explored from Cardiff’s role in the Coal industry to sustainable transport for the future.
