Day 4 Hours 7-8

Hour 7-8: UX Design Principles and Techniques

Overview of UX Design Principles:

a. Usability: Ensure that the web application is easy to use and navigate, with clear instructions and intuitive interactions.
b. Learnability: Design the application so that users can quickly understand how to use it, even if they are new to the platform.
c. Efficiency: Optimize the user experience to reduce the time and effort needed to complete tasks.
d. Memorability: Create an experience that is easy for users to remember, allowing them to quickly become proficient with the application.
e. Error prevention and recovery: Design the application to minimize errors and provide clear guidance on how to recover from mistakes.
f. User satisfaction: Focus on creating an enjoyable and engaging experience that meets users' expectations and needs.

Techniques for Designing Effective User Experiences:

a. Conduct user research: Gather information about users' needs, preferences, and behaviors to inform the design process.
b. Develop personas: Create user personas to represent different types of users and their goals, helping to guide design decisions.
c. Map user journeys: Identify the steps users take to complete tasks and visualize the user's journey through the application.
d. Design with accessibility in mind: Ensure that the application is accessible to users with disabilities, following accessibility guidelines and best practices.
e. Iterate and test: Continuously refine the design based on user feedback and usability testing to ensure the best possible user experience.

Hands-on Exercise: Mapping out User Journeys for the Sample Web Application

a. Based on the project requirements and objectives, identify the key tasks users need to complete within the web application.
b. In small groups, have students discuss and map out the user journey for each key task, considering the steps users take to complete the task and any potential pain points or obstacles.
c. Encourage students to think about how the UI elements they sketched out earlier can be used to facilitate the user journey and create a positive user experience.
d. Have each group present their user journey maps to the class, explaining their thought process and how they incorporated the UX design principles and techniques.
e. Facilitate a class discussion about the different user journey maps, encouraging constructive feedback and suggestions for improvement.
