Part 1: Overview of different field types in Airtable
Text: Stores plain or rich text information.
Number: Stores numerical values and allows for calculations.
Date: Stores dates and times with optional time zone support.
Checkbox: Represents binary (yes/no) values.
Single Select: Allows users to choose one option from a predefined list.
Multiple Select: Allows users to choose multiple options from a predefined list.
Attachment: Stores files, images, and documents.
Rating: Represents a rating value, such as stars or points.
Currency: Stores monetary values with currency symbols.
Formula: Calculates a result based on other fields and predefined formulas.
Lookup: Pulls data from another table by matching records.
Rollup: Aggregates data from another table based on defined relationships.
Collaborator: Assigns tasks or responsibilities to team members.
URL: Stores web links and URLs.
Email: Stores email addresses and allows for email integrations.
Phone: Stores phone numbers.
Part 2: Adding and customizing fields to a table
To add a field, click the "+" icon on the right side of the table header.
Choose the desired field type from the list and give it a name.
Customize the field's properties by clicking the field header and selecting "Customize field type." Adjust settings according to your needs.
Part 3: Hands-on exercise: Adding fields to tables and customizing them
In the "Tasks" table, add fields for task name (text), assignee (collaborator), due date (date), status (single select), priority (rating), and description (long text).
Customize the "status" field to include options like "Not started," "In progress," "Completed," and "On hold."
In the "Team Members" table, add fields for name (text), role (single select), email (email), and phone (phone).
Customize the "role" field to include options like "Project Manager," "Designer," "Developer," and "Tester."
In this hour, students will learn about the different field types available in Airtable and how to add and customize fields in a table. They will practice these skills by adding fields to the "Tasks" and "Team Members" tables and customizing them as needed.
