Day 10-12: Advanced Functionality and Integrations
Day 11 Hours 1-2
Day 11 Hour 1-2: Introduction to Third-Party Integrations
What are third-party integrations and why are they useful
At the start of Day 11, we will discuss third-party integrations and their significance in the world of web application development. Third-party integrations allow your application to leverage and interact with external services and tools, broadening its functionality and versatility. They can automate tasks, enhance data analysis, improve user experience, and much more.
Examples of popular third-party integration tools (Zapier, Integromat)
We'll then move on to explore some popular third-party integration tools, specifically focusing on Zapier and Integromat. These platforms allow you to connect your application with thousands of other apps and services, facilitating seamless data transfer and automation across various workflows.
Zapier operates based on 'Zaps', which are workflows that connect your apps and services together. A 'Zap' consists of a 'trigger' and one or more 'actions'. When the 'trigger' event occurs in one app, Zapier will automatically complete the 'action' in another app.
Integromat, on the other hand, is a more advanced tool that allows for more complex workflows and offers deeper data manipulation capabilities. Integromat operates on 'scenarios' that can be crafted to do almost anything you want across multiple apps and services.
Hands-on exercise: Setting up a basic integration with Zapier
To wrap up the first two hours of Day 11, we'll engage in a hands-on exercise where we will set up a basic integration using Zapier. This will provide you with a practical understanding of how to use Zapier to automate tasks and integrate your web application with other apps and services. We'll walk through the process of creating a new 'Zap', setting up a 'trigger' and an 'action', and testing the workflow to ensure everything is working as expected.
