Drive a culture of feedback with this Coda resource
Requesting Feedback
TL;DR
Ask for feedback from Codans who have direct experience with you and your work. Get the feedback you need by being as specific as possible.
Be proactive!
When you ask, it’s easier to get. Requesting specific feedback ensures you get the information you need, and makes it easier for folks who might otherwise be hesitant.
Tips for Requesting Feedback
When asking for feedback for yourself or a direct report:
Prioritize an area of focus. Choose a specific event, person, product, or service in which you want the feedback.
Request from someone who has seen your work. Pick someone who directly experiencedthe process or outcome of your work.
Lead with your feedback request. Follow with details about the specific areas or types of feedback you seek.
Use artifacts or references. If you have a product name, ticket ID, reference, or event image that will help your colleague remember, use it! Include a brief summary of your role on the project or attach the piece of work to make it easy for the person to remember.
Make your prompt clear, brief, and specific.
Example feedback prompts
I’ve been working on XYZ. Can you tell me what you notice...
Will you share some of your experience working with me on XYZ...?
Going into this next cycle, can you look out for XYZ and share how I might do better?
