Protecting your App's Secret Keys

What are Secret Keys?

🔑 Secret keys are any important, confidential credentials that are needed to access your development accounts. This could include your AWS, Apple Store Account and/or Google Play Account.

Why is protecting all my Secret Keys in one safe place so important?

Keeping your Secret Keys safe is essential to reduce the risk of being hacked, keep your app, and more importantly your 👤users’ data secure.
You may have recently seen stories in the news about big companies being hacked, and having their data stolen. Because of these incidents, a lot of online platforms have increased security to keep their customer’s safe. This means that you might have a bit more than just an email and password to keep track off.
Additionally, to eliminate the risks of account credentials being forgotten. This is a common incident in the development that will cause an impact to the timeline.
One common experience we have with client’s forgetting the Apple Store account credentials and resetting a password on Apple Store usually takes days. You have to personally send a request email for their support and it takes around 3 to 5 days for this process.
To access your accounts, you could need some, or all, of the following:
A business email address
A secure password (more than 10 characters, combination of uppercase, lowercase, symbols and numbers, no personal information or regular words included)
A phone number
A two-factor authentication app
Security questions
You will also need these details to access your accounts again in the future, so it is important to store your credentials safely and keep any emails or phone numbers up to date.

How should I safely store my Secret Keys?

As soon as you set up your accounts, we recommend adding the credentials to a secure Password Manager. Remember to also keep those credentials updated so you don’t lose access! We recommend , but you can use other tools if you have a preference.
