Unemployment Information {9.16.2020}

How do I file for Unemployment?
Go online to your state’s unemployment website or call their office (listed under helpful links) to start your application
You will be notified if you do not qualify for normal unemployment, you will be enrolled in disaster unemployment benefits or Pandemic Unemployment assistance
During the application process, when asked the reason for your job separation, you should select “reduced hours”
Select “COVID-19” under the disaster impact session
You then will have multiple questions to answer, in order to submit your claim
The state that you are filing for unemployment, will notify you if your claim was denied or accepted
If it was denied, please refer to our Helpful Links section
If it was approved, it is important to remember you have to file a weekly payment request to receive your benefits

FAQ’s
Should I indicate if I was furloughed or laid off due to Covid-19?
Yes, this will make you eligible for any additional government assistance if and when another CARES or program of sorts is offered.
Is there an additional benefit at this time (i.e extra $600 a week)?
There is currently a $300 but varies from State to State. Continue to stay on top of the news for any future updates and check with your states unemployment as well.
What is the best time to contact my state's unemployment time?
Start calling first thing in the morning. Even though we are months into the pandemic, hold times are still long. If you are having trouble applying online maybe try non peak hours. (ex: late at night or early mornings)
Do I have to perform work searches while on unemployment ?
This could vary state to state. Check out your state's guidelines and keep on top of local and state news.
How long is it before I see my first unemployment payment?
It could take anywhere from 4-6 weeks for your 1st payment. You will be retro paid. Keep in mind that there may be waiting weeks in some states.
