ADVANCED: This lesson is best for students who have mastered routing using the GoodMaps app.
Objectives
After this lesson, students will be able to:
Use the GoodMaps app to travel indoor routes at school
Materials
iPhone or Android phone with GoodMaps downloaded from the App Store or the Google Play Store. This may be the student’s personal device, the teacher’s device, or a school-issued device.
Teacher-created list of clues that lead students to locations within the school. To create this list, choose 5-10 locations in your school. At each location, place an object students are meant to find by using the GoodMaps app to assist their routing experience. Objects might be a small prize or a braille sign with a special message. Write a clue for each location that requires students to use critical thinking skills to figure out the location. NOTE: Feel free to modify the instructions as needed.

Lesson Introduction
To prepare students for this lesson, discuss the concept of critical thinking as it applies to orientation and mobility. You may even ask them to read and reflect on a piece written about critical thinking like the one attached below offered by Washington State School for the Blind.
Main Activity: Discussion & Ideation
Provide students with a list of clues, and give them time to determine the location corresponding with each clue. Offer hints if students need help figuring out the location.
When each student has completed the worksheet, direct them to use the GoodMaps app to assist them in routing to each location. The student that completes the worksheet, successfully travels each route, and collects all of the corresponding objects/messages wins the challenge.
Assessment, Reflection & Self Evaluations
Ask students to share the most challenging aspects of the game experience.
Reward the winner(s) with a small prize (i.e., a small treat, school supply, or toy).
