INTERMEDIATE: This lesson is best for students with introductory knowledge of the GoodMaps app.

Objectives

For this challenge, plan a field trip to a GoodMaps enabled building in your community. To find a location near you, visit the Explore All Buildings section of the GoodMaps app.

You can also review this list of GoodMaps buildings near our partner schools.

After this lesson, students will be able to:

Use the GoodMaps Explore app to travel indoor routes at a building off campus

Materials

iPhone or Android phone with GoodMaps downloaded from the App Store or the Google Play Store. This may be the student’s personal device, the teacher’s device, or a school-issued device.

Teacher-created list of destinations in the GoodMaps building you choose to visit for your field trip.

Reading

Lesson Introduction

To prepare students for this lesson, discuss the building you will be visiting in advance of the field trip. Cover any pertinent information, including proper behavior.

Main Activity: Discussion & Ideation

Ask students to explore the building directory for the place you are visiting the day before the field trip so they can familiarize themselves in advance.

Assessment, Reflection & Self Evaluations

Ask students to share the most challenging aspects of the field trip experience.
