Curious about the Bible

Seeker has been curious about what is in the Bible. He recently met a Christian, , who has been sharing with him regularly about spiritual things. Ahmed has never met another Tunisian believer but has been taken aback by how Mohammed seems so full of joy, is honest, and seems to have a healthy family.

Mohammed is an outsider

Even though both Ahmed and Mohammed are both Tunisian, Mohammed was born in France and is quite a bit different than Ahmed socio-economically.

Mohammed has a car, a villa, and a well-paying job as an accountant.

Mohammed has also been a Christian for well over 5 years. Mohammed has been trained in the Disciple Making Course using Waha and is actively trying to engage the lost and find people of peace.

Invitation to Read the Bible

Ahmed has been asking Mohammed a lot of questions recently about Jesus and the Bible. However, Ahmed is still very much a muslim.

Mohammed says, “you know what, these are great questions. I don’t have answers to them. But would you be interested in reading the Bible with me to find out some of these questions?”
info
The Disciple Making Course teaches to not answer seeker’s questions, and instead offer them an opportunity to find the answers to those questions through Discovery Bible Studies.

Mohammed decides to model doing a Discovery Bible Study with Ahmed

Mohammed invites Ahmed to a coffee shop where they do a Discovery Bible Study using Waha.

While Ahmed has lots of questions about Jesus, Mohammed says this: “We can definitely go into all these questions. The Bible actually shines a lot of light into these topics. However, the best way to understand the overarching story of Jesus and the Bible is to .” Ahmed and Mohammed do the Creation lesson on Waha in Tunisian Arabic.

Mohammed challenges Ahmed to do a study with his family

During the lesson, Waha asks if there are others who would like to discover God’s word in this app. Mohammed tells Ahmed, “You know, you are a muslim. I have no intention to try to convince you otherwise. But don’t you think it would be better to discuss these questions with your family as well” Family is the best place to have these deep conversations... you and I are still just getting to know each other. Ahmed agrees that his wife, mother, and sister, who all live with him, would be interested in these spiritual conversations as well. Ahmed enjoyed doing the lesson with Mohammed and saw how it wasn’t very hard to do with the mobile app Mohammed was using.
info
The Disciple Making Course talks about there being an insider-outsider spectrum. It would be odd for someone of a completely different ethnicity, religion, socio-economic status, language accent to go into certain homes, neighborhoods, or villages. While both Mohammed and Ahmed are both Tunisian, Mohammed decides they are still pretty different in socio-economic status. Mohammed realizes that he uses a lot more French words when talking to Ahmed since he grew up in France. Mohammed also has been a believer for 5 years, and it would be better to equip Ahmed to do Discovery Bible Studies without Mohammed even being there, so he chooses to model a lesson with Ahmed first.

Ahmed downloads Waha by searching “Waha” in the Google Play Store

Mohammed told Ahmed to do the same lesson they just did but with his family and to message him on WhatsApp after he does it.

Ahmed does a lesson with his wife, mother, and sister

The lesson goes really well. Ahmed see’s that because he is with his family, he can share very openly about what they are reading.

At the end of the lesson, Waha asks who will facilitate the next meeting. Ahmed’s sister, Fatima, volunteers to lead the next time. Ahmed tells Fatima to download Waha on her phone by just searching “Waha” on Google
minus
Fatima does not yet have Waha on her phone. She isn’t quite sure how she is supposed to facilitate the lesson unless Ahmed lets her borrow his phone or tells her what app he is using.

Fatima downloads Waha and Facilitates a lesson

A few days later, Ahmed, his wife, his mother, and Fatima gather together to do another meeting. The last meeting, they all came up with “I will” statements - meaning statements on how they were going to apply what they learned the last time they read the Bible. For Fatima, that is a pretty uncomfortable question! She did not do what she said she was going to do. But she was very encouraged to hear how her mother was deeply impacted by the Word of God last time and had done a very specific action-item. At the end of the lesson, Waha asks who will facilitate the next meeting. This time, Ahmed’s wife, Sara, volunteers to lead the next time.

In this way, many people start downloading Waha and many people start to feel like leaders. This is the at work.

Ahmed Messages Mohammed

Ahmed is still identifies as a muslim. He is even still going to Mosque on Fridays. However he is really enjoying doing meetings like this. He is finding the Bible stories fascinating and is feeling like doing these lessons together is really helping bring his family together. For the longest time, his family would just be in the same room together with the TV on, not really having deep conversations. But now they are discussing deep heart issues. Ahmed forgot to message Mohammed. He sends him a WhatsApp, telling him about how they have met three times already.

Mohammed is blown away!

Mohammed has been praying for Ahmed every day since they first did a Discovery Bible Study together. Mohammed invites Ahmed to have coffee with him to talk more about what God is doing in his life.

At the coffee shop, Mohammed listens to Ahmed’s take aways from the Bible so far. He shares how his family is really talking and how his mother in particular is really being impacted by doing these lessons together.

Mohammed is very encouraged, but he wants to challenge Ahmed further.

“Ahmed, who else do you know would be blessed by doing lessons like these?”

Ahmed thinks it over. His childhood best friend Brahim has been overwhelmed in his marriage recently, maybe he would benefit from reading these stories.

Mohammed knows there are topical lessons on Waha about marriage, so he challenges Ahmed to do a Discovery Bible Study with Brahim using one of those lessons.
