Movement Counter Intuitives

Movement Counter Intuitives
Principle
1
The safest and best time for a person to learn to share is long, long before they are a believer.
2
The safest and best time for a small group (Discovery Group or Church) to start a new church is at the very beginning.
3
Let the lost facilitate Bible studies.
4
A new insider is more effective than a highly trained, mature outsider.
5
Expect fruit in the hardest of places.
6
Go slow to grow fast.
7
Disciple to conversion, not convert with the hopes of then discipling.
8
Focus on one to win many.
9
Share with everyone. Only continue forward with those who are responsive.
10
The workers are in the harvest.
11
The resources are in the harvest.
12
Win the gathered, not gather the won.
13
“Evangelism” is not the only way to do evangelism.
14
“Teaching” is not the only way to teach.
15
Starting effective conversations is about a lot more than just saying lots of casual spiritual statements about God.
16
Making disciples of “all nations” is different than making an individual disciple.
17
If I have to bring them together, I have to be present to keep them together.
18
Teaching the commands of Christ is very different than teaching someone to ‘obey’ the commands of Christ.
19
The best church planters never plant churches.
20
Discovery is an effective way for learners to learn and teachers to “teach”.
21
Outsiders have a role, but movements are not being started by outsiders in traditional expressions of “missionary” or “ministry” roles.
22
Prepare to spend a long time but anticipate miracle accelerations.
23
Movements are not birthed by just following a method.
24
“Church” buildings are one of the quickest ways to stop “church” planting movements.
25
Start with creation not Christ.
26
Good doctors know the vitals of those in their care, do you know the vitals of those in your movement?
27
Money can stop movements faster than the enemy.
28
Complexity is the enemy of growth.
29
Addition does not add up to multiplication.
30
Are average believers passive spectators or active disciple-makers?
31
People of peace are often who you don’t expect.
32
Few doing the work leads to little new growth. Many doing the work leads to much new growth.
33
A weak understanding of a person of peace wastes time and leads to frustration.
34
If you aim for one generation, you’ll get one generation. If you want a movement, aim for the third generation, not the first.
35
Put your name on a movement if you want to slow it down.
36
Satan has great ‘knowledge’ of God.
37
The Gospel spreads most effectively from one person to their friends/family and most unnaturally from a stranger to many.
38
Trust the Bible, don’t try to improve it.
39
Discipleship leads to good evangelism, but evangelism does not often lead to good discipleship. Where will you focus?
40
Don’t push, let them pull.
41
Be a disciple worth multiplying.
42
Disciple making is leader making. Your definition for a disciple and a leader should be very similary.
43
Inspect instead of expect.
44
Ask development questions, not performance questions.
45
Its easier to correct fresh problems instead of stale problems.
46
It’s better to have an empty leadership slot than an incorrectly-filled one.
47
Stick with the person of peace, don’t try to find more.
