6 Monthly Volta Board Meeting

Board Meetings for Resident Teams at Volta

Introduction to Board Meetings
We are launching Volta Board Meetings for all Catalyst and Growth resident startups at Volta from June 2024. These meetings are a strategic initiative aimed at enhancing the experience and effectiveness of our startups. As a Growth Coach, your guidance to your teams as well as your participation in these meetings is crucial. To make it logistically not another hoop to jump through but something that adds value to the teams, we will use the growth meeting for that month that has already been scheduled, but just schedule it for 2 hours instead of 1.

Here, we outline what these Board Meetings entail and your role in them.

Objective of Board Meetings
Board Experience for Startups:
The meetings are designed to provide resident teams, especially those without an Executive Board, with valuable experience in engaging with and leveraging a Board. This experience is vital for their future growth and governance structure.
Product Demonstration and Market Alignment:
Teams will have the opportunity to demonstrate their product and discuss how it aligns with their market traction. This is a chance for them to showcase their progress and strategic alignment.
Presentation of Milestones:
Each team will present their planned milestones for the next six months, covering key areas such as Team, Traction, Technology, and Funding. This helps in setting clear, strategic goals for their ongoing development.
Leveraging Board Expertise:
The meetings serve as a platform for teams to tap into the Board’s vast experience and networks. They can seek input on focus areas, clarify aspects they are uncertain about, and gain insights to guide their decision-making.

Your Role as a Growth Coach
Preparation: Assist your team in preparing for the Board Meeting. This includes refining their product demo, aligning their presentation with market traction, and crystallizing their 6-month milestones.
Board Pack: Review their Board Pack and have them send this out to attendees at lest a week prior to the meeting. The team will be conducting multiple Board Meetings during that time and will have limited time to review everything if it is not sent with sufficient time to review.
Support: During the meeting, provide support and guidance by asking strong questions and help them facilitate the Agenda effectively. It will be ideal if you, as Growth Coach, could facilitate the Agenda. Help your team articulate their achievements and plans effectively.
Follow-Up: Post-meeting, work with your team to incorporate feedback and insights gained from the Board into their strategy and action plans.

Conclusion
Board Meetings are a significant step forward in our mission to provide comprehensive, real-world experience to our startups. These sessions are not just about evaluation but are a powerful tool for learning, networking, and strategic planning. Your involvement as a Growth Coach is key to maximizing the benefits of these meetings for our resident startups.
