🧰 What is this feature?

The automatic cropping model takes a video file (.mp4) and a certain aspect ratio (like 9-16, or 1-1) and intelligently crops the video to that aspect ratio. It does this based on detected faces and detected objects.

🔧 How to use it?

1️⃣ Export video: Use AVID media composer to send a video using the following ‘send to playback profiles’. Make sure to remember the filename of the input.

On the right you can find an overview of the available aspect ratios you can autocrop your video to.We define the aspect ratio as a certain width and height (W-H) of the video.

If you want more aspect ratios available, please let Data Science know!

Please make sure that there are no spaces in the filename. Example of some correct filenames are auto_crop_doc.mp4, autocropme.mp4. Filenames like auto crop doc.mp4 will not work.

2️⃣ Wait for processing: Grab a ☕ and wait 8 to 15 minutes for the video to be processed. Longer input files will take longer to process.

3️⃣ Download video files: You will find the autocropped videos with a similar filename as the video you sent in step 1. For example, if you sent the video filename.mp4, to the “VERTICAL” (9:16) export profile, the following videos 6 will be created:

The video with “best_effort” the filename will use the default autocropping parameters. The “all_faces_required” video will try to fit all detected faces into the autocropped video, even if that means adding vertical bars to the video.

The video with “debug” in the filename will show you the detected faces and objects which the AI uses to determine how to automatically crop the video, this can give you some insight on perhaps the mistakes it made. The video with “salient_point” in the filename will show you the full aspect ratio video, with the cropped window it used.
