The Support Team

The Support Team -Visioning Document
(Version 1.2 – 5/17/23)
Everyone, this is a working draft-document. All ideas and critiques are welcome!
Mission: The Support Team (TST) is the arm of the Timothy Collective that onboards and supports mentors in their important work of mentoring future Catholic leaders.
Our Tasks: To S.E.E. the Mentors
TST will model the mentoring process with 3 Offerings to Mentors: S.E.E.
· Support. We provide onboarding and ongoing support to mentors (that includes both technical and training support).
o (Men get frustrated when they lack the basic support needed to accomplish an important task. TST endeavors to anticipate the normal entry-point challenges that mentors will face)
· Encourage. We create an environment where mentors feel a sense of camaraderie and appreciation.
o (Men typically do better when they have a team rooting for their success. TST is the first level of encouragement)
· Equip. We connect the mentors with the training/resources/fellowship they need to keep them both motivated and competent as a mentor.
o (Men have an innate desire to work at and succeed in the endeavors that are important to them. Men do not want to let the team down. When they feel empowered and equipped, they follow through on their promises.)
TST Supports the Mentor Onboarding Process
1. Welcome: TST welcomes the potential mentor, explains the apostolate and answers any initial questions. (Perhaps a simple welcome packet is sent)
2. Account Set-up: If the man is interested in starting the training process, TST will help the potential mentor get set up as a Trainee in the mentorship program.
3. Accompaniment: TST will:
a. Help Mentors complete the application process (or whatever we require to get them set up).
b. Connect potential mentors with the training videos and other onboarding resources.
c. Check-in with each potential mentor to assess progress and to see if he has any questions/concerns.
d. Once the coursework is completed, TST will add the mentor to the Instant Messaging Mentor group (E.g., WhatsApp or other) and introduce him to the group.
i. Add Mentor to Mentoring “Posts” group
ii. Add Mentor to Group chat
e. Have the mentor complete his online profile/bio
4. Track Progress: TST will track each man’s progress during the training.
5. Ongoing Support and Training: TST will support the management team in their responsibility of providing ongoing support, resources, and training to mentors.
Level-One Support to the Mentors (the basic resources)
1. Instant Messaging Platform. TST will add the mentor to the IM chat room group chat (such as Whatsapp) where mentors can share ideas, offer support, and learn from each other.
2. Instant Posts. via Text a place with men can get a quick post via group texts
3. A Periodic email with updates and ongoing tips for effective mentoring
Level-Two Support to the Mentors (Suggestions/initial ideas)
1. Connect them with a mentor small team. Perhaps a smaller group of men that support one another
2. Ongoing Training – Online short videos, annual day of training
3. Mentor/Mentee event – Perhaps a gathering once per year
