Identification guides for pond insects
Life cycle labels (eggs, larva/nymph, tadpole, adult, etc.)
Videos or slideshows depicting frog and dragonfly life cycles
Small Cups
Slides
Droppers
Pond water
Microscopes or magnifying glasses

Activities:

1. Introduction to Metamorphosis and Life Cycles (10 minutes):

Briefly explain the concept of life cycles and metamorphosis.
Introduce the goal: To explore pond water to find insects at various life stages and compare these findings with the life cycle of a frog.
Visuals : View slideshows of frog and insect (dragonfly, mosquito, etc) life cycles

2. Pond Water Exploration (20 minutes):

Divide students into small groups and provide each group with a container of pond water. If possible, involve students in the collection process using nets.
Using microscopes or magnifying glasses, students examine the water to identify insects and observe different life stages present (e.g., eggs, larvae/nymphs).
Utilize identification guides to help students name the insects and understand their life cycle stage.
