More fluid and continuous view of individuality; from physical to biological

Three kidns of individuals

Internal: shaped by environmental factors, but contains most of its information internally (ex. humans, mammals)

Colonial: more complicated relationship b/w internal and external factors (ants)

Environmental: driven almost entirely by environment

Solaris: short novel, film whgere an entire planet is an individual, the ocean is sentient
