Time Off

At Hatch, we encourage you to take this time off because we understand that time away from the business is just as important as time in the business to recharge and ensure you don’t burn out.
25 days off accumulated on a pro-rata basis per year worked
10 days of paid sick & careers leave over the same period

Christmas/New Years Shutdown

Between Christmas / New Years’ day, there are a number of public holidays. It’s also quite a slow time for recruitment for our clients and our community. For this reason, we shut the company down during this period.
We may ask some people to handle tickets if needed, but it means their will be a compulsory 3-4 days off, this will not come from your annual leave allowance.

Booking Leave (HiBob / Employment Hero)

You don’t need permission to take time off. But it’s your responsibility to coordinate with your team when you take planned leave so they can continue moving forward in your absence.

Calendar

Make sure to put your time-off in your calendar if it’s not synced

When you should take time off

You are sick

If you are sick, you shouldn’t be working and you will be paid according to your sick leave. Please let your manager know if you need to take off due to illness as soon as you are able to, then log it in HiBob.
If you are sick for an extended period (4+ work days), please let us know so we can work out a plan. We also need a doctors certificate. But know we want to accomodate you first.

Volunteer Leave

We offer an additional 2 days volunteer leave per year, that you can spend volunteering your time for mentoring or at a non-profit of your choice. The same process as planned leave should take place when notifying your manager and team.

Parental Leave

Becoming a parent is an exciting journey for many people, and at Octopus, we would like to support you in this journey. Anyone becoming a parent through childbirth or adoption, as long as they have been working at Octopus for at least 12 months at the time of the event.
Upon the birth or adoption of a child (an ‘event’), we’ll offer you:
12 weeks of fully Paid Parental Leave, regardless of whether you are the primary or secondary carer. This will be in addition to other benefits you may be entitled to, for example, the Government-paid parental leave scheme in Australia.
Superannuation and pension contributions will continue to be paid in full during the 12 weeks of paid parental leave
Annual and sick leave continue to accrue during the 12 weeks of paid parental leave.
In the tragic circumstances of stillbirth, from the 20th week of pregnancy onwards, you remain entitled to paid and unpaid parental leave.
In addition to the 12 weeks of Paid Parental Leave, you may also decide to take up to 12 months of Unpaid Parental Leave, followed by an additional 12 months subject to approval.
Our Paid Parental Leave can be used flexibly over the six months following the event. The first six weeks must be taken as a single block immediately before or after the event. The other six weeks can be taken flexibly over the six months following the event - e.g., returning to work four days per week, taking every Friday off.
