1. What is a Vault?
A Vault is a secure, encrypted space to store sensitive information like passwords, wills, and other important documents. It employs a zero-knowledge key-sharing system, ensuring only authorized individuals can access your data.
2. How secure is my data?
Your data is protected using strong encryption methods, and access is controlled through a distributed key system. This means your data is fragmented and encrypted, making it virtually impossible for unauthorized parties to access.
3. How does the key-sharing system work?
When you create a Vault, you choose trusted contacts and determine the number of keys required to unlock it. Each contact receives a unique key. To unlock the Vault, the specified number of keys must be provided.
4. What happens if a key is lost?
The data can still be unlocked as long as the remaining number of keys meets or exceeds the Required Keys. For example, if 3 keys were generated and only 2 are required, losing 1 key will not affect access.
5. Can I set a time delay for access?
The Hold Time is a waiting period configured during Vault creation. Once the required keys are provided, the Vault owner can approve or reject the access request during this period. The default Hold Time is 1 day, but it can be customized. This adds an extra layer of control and security.
6. Can I keep the original data in the Vault?
While it is possible to select the "Keep Data" option, it is not recommended for maximum security. Without keeping the data, it will only be reconstructable using the required keys.
7. How can I access a Vault shared with me?
If you have received a key, visit the Recovery page and enter your key to locate and unlock the Vault.
8. What happens if Required Keys equals Total Keys?
If Required Keys is set equal to Total Keys, all participants must provide their keys to unlock the data. If even one key is lost, the data will be permanently inaccessible.
9. Is my data safe during the Hold Time?
Yes. During the Hold Time, the Vault owner can deny the access request. If no action is taken, the data will be unlocked automatically after the Hold Time expires.
10. Can I change the Hold Time after creating the Vault?
Yes, the Hold Time is configured during Vault creation and can be modified afterward. Choose a value that suits your security needs.
11. Can I permanently delete my Vault and data?
Yes, you have the option to permanently delete all data within a Vault. This action is irreversible, so proceed with caution.
