Lord Mayor of Dublin Hazel Chu to give a keynote speech at the Democracy Summit!

25.08.2020
Another exciting announcement: Lord Mayor of Dublin will give a keynote speech on political participation in the Democracy Summit on the 17th of September!
Lord Mayor Hazel Chu was elected the Lord Mayor of Dublin in June this year. She became the first ethnically Chinese person to hold political office in Ireland and Dublin’s first Lord Mayor of colour.
Councillor Chu became the first Green Party councillor to be elected in the 2019 local elections and topped the poll with over 4,000 first preference votes. In the same year she was elected Chair of the Party. She studied politics and history in UCD and trained to be a barrister at Kings Inns. Councillor Chu was the first person in her family to finish school and go to college.
Speaking to the council following her election, Chu pledged to fight for the right for housing and the homeless in Dublin. She also said she would tackle discrimination saying it wasn't enough "not to be racist, we have to be anti-racist”.
