Background info

According to the OAS in 2018, despite certain advances, challenges remain regarding land ownership in areas affected by transnational companies, related to mining exploration, tourism projects and private hydroelectric dams. Honduras is also one of the most dangerous countries to be an activist in Latin America and the world; 29 human rights defenders have been killed in 2019 and over a 100 since 2010.
