The Government of India’s environmental ministry has proposed a new set of rules to govern the country’s environmental clearance regime for industrial projects. The draft Environmental Impact Assessment purposes to ease the processes for business.

It also wants to ease rules of expansion projects among other things. Studies into this draft proposal have shown that it legitimises violations to start projects without environmental clearance and gives a lot of powers to the authorities.
