The fate of indigenous communities in Brazil, and therefore the survival of our ecosystem, is in the hands of the Brazilian legal system. Jair Bolsonaro wants to deprive all the indigenous communities of Brazil of their right to their lands to make the Amazon jungle an agricultural paradise. The government wants land rights back to the past, as in 1988, when it saw indigenous genocide and a violent reduction of land rights. Current trends in livestock, agriculture, logging, fire and drought project that 55% of the Amazon will be destroyed by 2030 if no action is taken.
An example of the violence was the murder of a member of a tribe protected in the Amazon by armed men, the body of Zezico Guajajara from the Guajajara tribe was found on April 14, 2020, he was a teacher and a supporter of Forest Guardians who formed to combat logging gangs in the area
The murder was the fifth in the last 6 months and shows growing concern over violence against protectors of the Amazon forests.
