Subject: URGENT call to action against the Alberta Critical Infrastructure Defense Act.
Hello _________,
I'm writing to you about an extremely urgent human rights issue. On Friday, June 5th, Alberta is set to pass a bill titled the Critical Infrastructure Defense Act. This bill would impose fines of up to $25,000 or jail time of up to 6 months for any individual or company found to have blocked, damaged, or entered without reason any "essential infrastructure." These infrastructures include highways (which can include roads), railroads, and pipelines. This bill was proposed in direct response to the Wet’suwet’en protestors and threatens to infringe upon the rights of Indigenous Peoples, as well as infringing on the rights of all Canadians to protest and hold their government accountable. The Alberta NDP minority’s legal analysis team has determined that the bill could allow for the prosecution of those who are on public land or merely beside a railroad, pipeline, etc.
This bill will be enacted on Friday. In response to this, I urge you to take the following actions.
Sign this urging Premier Jason Kenney to withdraw the bill.
Email Premier Jason Kenney or other Ministers

In Canada, we recognize that the ongoing police brutality and breaches of justice within the policing system has the greatest effect upon black and indigenous communities. This bill directly increases the abilities of police officers to legally restrict and control indigenous communities and allies. It would directly lead to an increase in the policing and prosecution of indigenous people. The adverse ramifications of passing this bill would be innumerable.
