R.E.A.C.H. - Raising Equality Awareness through Community Healing

"Racism: Not in our DNA, but love and acceptance are."
Last edited 757 days ago by Farhun Hazard.
Racism is a troublesome and deeply ingrained problem with a complicated history. With diverse forms and expressions across time, it crosses numerous geographic and cultural boundaries. Here is a synopsis of racism's historical development:
Ancient Times: Early instances of racial prejudice and discrimination can be traced back to ancient civilizations. Ancient Egyptians, for example, exhibited prejudice towards other neighbouring peoples.
Transatlantic Slave Trade: The transatlantic slave trade, which took place from the 16th through the 19th century, is one of the most important and catastrophic episodes in the history of racism. Millions of Africans were kidnapped, sold as slaves, and dragged over the Atlantic to labour on plantations in the Americas.
Colonialism and Imperialism: European colonial powers used racial theories to justify their exploitation of indigenous peoples. They utilized racism as an excuse for their oppression, cultural assimilation, and economic exploitation of colonial areas because they believed themselves to be superior to the native populations.
Scientific Racism: The pseudoscientific subject of "race science" first evolved in the 18th and 19th centuries, aiming to categorize and rank people according to their physical traits and perceived IQ.
Apartheid: From 1948 to 1994, South Africa's apartheid system institutionalized racial segregation and oppression. There were several protests and considerable international condemnation as a result of the white minority government's severe legislation that discriminated and persecuted the non-white populace.
Civil Rights Movement: The fight against racism underwent a profound transformation in the middle of the 20th century. The goal of the American Civil Rights Movement, which was spearheaded by activists like Martin Luther King Jr., was to combat racial inequity, discrimination, and segregation.
Racism in the modern world: Systemic racism, institutional discrimination, and unconscious prejudices are all current manifestations of racism. Black Lives Matter and other movements have brought attention to persistent racial injustices and inequalities, igniting debates and calls for reform on a worldwide scale.

Impacts to be taken by us

Awareness Campaigns:- Creating and implementing public awareness campaigns to inform people about the causes, impacts, and repercussions of racism
Diversity Workshops and Training:-Workshops and training sessions on diversity are being organized with the goal of fostering diversity, inclusivity, and cultural awareness. Participants will be encouraged to understand and empathize with one another throughout these sessions, which will take place at companies, schools, or community centres.
Artistic Expressions:-Encouraging people to use various artistic mediums, such as paintings, photographs, poetry, music, or theatre, to convey their experiences with and opinions on racism.
Community Dialogues:-Promoting candid and fruitful discourse within communities by setting up town hall gatherings, roundtable conversations, or cross-cultural interactions.
Curriculum Development:- Working with educational institutions to provide anti-racism lessons or add resources to current curricula that support inclusion, diversity, and cultural sensitivity.
Mentorship Programs:- Establishing mentoring programs that bring together people from different backgrounds and offer assistance and direction to underserved populations
Conducting research:-Research on racial disparities, prejudice, and inequality and using the results to promote reforms and changes in policy
Platforms for storytelling:- Establishing online spaces, such blogs or podcasts, where people can discuss their firsthand encounters with racism.
Programs encouraging people to participate as allies in the struggle against racism are called "allyship programs." This can entail giving people the tools, instruction, and assistance they need to become informed, confront their prejudices, and combat racism.

In the recent killings, a hot topic came into being, "Racism". So, I chose to gather some data to take out some insights and analyze the story around racism in America. I downloaded the raw data from kaggle and prepared it for visualization while correcting values, handling missing content, normalization and categorization. Since we cant download huge datasets in CodaAI, I took some rows and done the data analysis techniques
