The Business

Problem
Playing with other musicians can be difficult because of a lack of rehearsal space, high travel costs, time spent traveling, social distancing issues, and latency problems when playing online.
Solution
We have developed a cross-platform resource of high-quality audio and video recordings that allow players of all ages and abilities to interact with professional musicians in new and exciting ways.
Users can solo, loop, and mute any combination of instruments, change speed, record, mix, share, download sheet music parts, score follow and view player interviews & close-ups for top tips and advice.
It enhances the player experience, supports teachers, and encourages practice and collaboration. It's also a lot of fun.

The Market

The global market size for online music learning is expected to touch US$143 million by 2025 and technology is now in place for accelerated exponential growth, especially in SE Asia and China where rehearsal and practice space is limited. Social distancing restrictions are further fuelling this opportunity.
State and private music education sectors are moving to online learning to support their face-to-face activities. As are adult learners, students, professionals, publishers, and manufacturing brands.
PartPlay provided free resources to users to learn what functions and resources they wanted and developed accordingly. We are now in a position to monetise through app downloads, app purchases, subscriptions, and licensing.

Progress/Proof

After 5 years of extensive research and development, our app and web platforms are fully multi-functional and ready to enjoy.
Our test platform attracted over 2.8k subscribers which allowed us to experiment with free and paid subscription plans. Users include Royal Conservatoires, Universities, schools, music hubs, and the European String Teachers Association.
Access to the free subscription plan was financially supported by Thomastik-Infeld the world's largest classical string manufacturer.
"A wonderful product" Peter Hewitt CEO of Benslow Music and former Director of the Junior Department of the Royal College of Music.

Objectives/Future

2022
We have a highly skilled and experienced team in place but need to hire a marketing expert to grow, especially focusing on the fantastic potential in SE Asia and music education in general.
2022-2023
We want to expand our music catalogue focusing on elementary and intermediate standard repertoire for school and adult learners.
We will continue to develop our B2B business opportunities and provide a platform for publishers to showcase their repertoire.

2022-2025
Innovation is important and we are part of the ARME team, (https://arme-project.co.uk/) a fully funded (£1 million) 3-year project researching how musicians synchronise to each other so we can build a computational model that can reproduce the musician's behaviour
