How To Use

This Toolkit details actions your team can take at each stage of design and development. The activities included should not be seen as a "silver bullet" to ensure your product is equitable, but rather as a starting point to ensure your team is asking the right questions at the right time. Regardless of whether your company is just starting to think about using AI or ML, or whether you've been using it for years, it is never too late to consider racial equity for your product(s).
Your team may have other ways of uncovering and addressing racial bias, and we want to hear them! Please give us feedback so we can improve the toolkit for others. This work should be done together, as an industry, in partnership with schools, students, and families.
This Toolkit is broken up into the following phases that should be explored in order. You can use the navigation bars to jump from section to section, use this table of contents, or follow along from section to section. Complete the activities with your team and record your learnings and decisions. You will typically revisit work you've done in early stages of product development, and iterate on your decisions as you learn more or collect feedback from students and families. Overtime the process will feel natural and will become a critical part of the way you build products, leading to better outcomes for all students.
