Jack Nicklaas chooses a target line of a good place to be, like the center of the green. If he hits his fade well, he is in a good place. If he hits his fade really well he on the pin. If he over hits his fade he is just right of the pin. If he doesn’t fade it at all he is on the left side of the green. All are putting positions.

Pick the target. Typically the center of the green side, or the side of the pin or fairway.
Aim club-face at that target - this is the target line.
Aim feet parallel to that Target line.
In Build the Swing of a Lifetime, Mike Bender shows aligning club-face at the target.

The stick at your feet should be parallel with club-face. Now set the club or alignment stick down next to the ball so that it mirrors your club-path and per my view not the club-face. I don’t know if this is intentional but it was instructive visualize the club-path being just outside the target-line.
Another view of it is in the photo below. If you look at the yellow lines you can see the non-parallel nature of feet .vs club-path.
