Housing Overview

The Quad, Hill, and KCECH oh my! TL;DR: choose the Quad or Hill!
Overview of Housing

🗣 My Hot Take

In my opinion, if you want to be social, there are two relevant housing options for freshmen: the Quad (short for the Quadrangle) and Hill. That’s not to say that you can’t have a social life in Du Bois, Gregory, Stouffer and Lauder (the four-year college houses) or KCECH... I just think it’s harder. The Quad and Hill are freshman-only, so when school starts, everyone is in the same boat trying to socialize with as many people as possible; you don’t necessarily get this shared eagerness to meet others in four-year housing! Additionally, KCECH (Kings Court English) has a reputation of being an extremely quiet, study-friendly environment, so is not as socializing-friendly.
The Quad is made up of three college houses: Fisher, Ware and Riepe:

The differences between the three are pretty negligible; I think the main decision for incoming freshmen is choosing between Hill and the Quad.

📍 Freshman Housing Map

Map of Penn with Freshman Housing options highlighted.
My lovely twin sister (who is also a CS major/fine arts minor at Penn) made this map of Penn with the various college houses outlined. As you can tell, the Quad (made up of Fisher, Ware, Riepe) is much more central on Penn’s campus than Hill, KCECH, and the four-year college houses.
