SQ3R: How to take Notes
Learning how to read and take Video and textbook notes is critical at all school levels and as a life long learning to guarantee success.
Briefly detail how the Cornel note taking has method had been used (add reference) and how this has been adapted using the SQ3R, (Skim, question, read, recite, and review) In recent years.
In the age of AI this approach call for a further review and students and life long learners need to gain leverage from Ai so the approach can be adapted.
My Vision is have a platform that support Learning gain leaverage from AI tools to support learning in the most efficient manor possible
Here is the approach I am building an App. I would like feedback on from educators and students to help be adapt this approach so I can modify my App design. Furthermore, learning it is now possible for AI to revise customize materials to meet learning objectives and the use chatbot to mentor the user.
The App will be design to support the Learner:
S = Skim the entire media to outline media, briefly.
1. Use AI to support you skim or scan the file and identify:
a. how it will help my achieve my learning obectives
b. Main headings and subheadings and the relationships between the two in text.
c. Related sections in videos section Timestamps d. Pictures, graphs, and charts. Think about what they tell you about the purpose of the media and that you will consume.
d. Questions at the "end" or summaries, which let you know what the author thinks is most important in the chapter. e. Organization and format of the particular selection.
Comment: AI can already take information form PDFs, Lecture notes, Online Course materials and Videos. It is appreciated obtaining permission from publisher may be a challenge of the future
2. Review, if necessary, so you have a good sense of what this chapter or selection is about.
Q = Question by turning the headings into questions.
Write the question in the left-hand margin of your Cornell notes Canvas before you begin to read the section.
The question will help you by
Arousing your curiosity.
Bringing to mind information you already know;
Helping you understand the section more quickly;
Making important points stand out for explanatory details.
R = Read so as to answer you questions.

Understanding the graphs and figures.
R = Recite while watching video or reading the text .
1. After reading the first section, look away from the book and try to answer your question; give an example. If you are watching a video, press pause, and try to answer questions
2. Type your answer in your own words in the right hand column of your notes.
a. Write just enough to jog your memory. (Experiment with how much you need to write: too much and you won't take time to review; too little and you won't remember what was said.)
b. Define new terms or copy a graph.
c. Underline key phrases and words.
3. Repeat the process until you have finished consuming the media.
4. Draw a clear mindmap using pen. [Explain why].You could upload a photo and create copy using ChatGPT4, an recreate a digital version using mermaid or miro [Explain why this is better than directly getting ChatGPT to create the mindmap if there is a body of research to suppor this]
R = Review with AI.
Re-skim the media after you have finished consuming it.
Take five minutes to reread your notes. Be sure you understand the main ideas and their relationships to each other. Reread any part of the text or watch the section of the video , if you don't understand your notes.
