As a core part of my role at Backdrop, I’ve been building out DAO DNA, a meta-community (or community container) fostering a culture of cross-pollination across DAOs. This incorporates so many streams of work, and I am SO excited by our vision! Trust, empathy, and vulnerability. When we spoke, Marcus mentioned that Cohere was founded on the principles of healing—grounded in mental health, introspection, and growth. I know first hand that there is a limit to what you can create when you haven’t resolved your trauma, when you haven’t committed to the (often, painful) process of self-discovery, and it is so energizing to find a community in Cohere that is fostered on these same principles of care.

Oh my gosh, so many!! The beauty of Web3, specifically in the DAO space, is that you get to have your hand in so many different pots—and all of these pots are inherently interconnected. Beyond my core role at Backdrop, essentially a social connective tissue between communities shaping community, I also lead the nodes teams at CabinDAO (which is how I initially connected with Marcus and Cohere!), am stewarding a super exciting project in curation and exhibition for Forefront, and am heavily involved in Protein and Radar—two communities that resonate so strongly with my own value set. I’ve also been working on my own non-profit, the publics., inspired by the indigenous culture of the gifting economy. We believe that human capital is a public good, and that intellectual property shouldn’t just be shared—it should be *gifted*. Our goals are lofty and ambitious, but the most paradigm shifting ideas (like Cohere!) should be.

Who and what do you care about? What causes or issues matter to you the most?
I care deeply about people and purpose. I care about any cause that affects humanity; any contribution that brings us closer as a collective. To me, every global issue falls under this concept—from climate change, to decentralization, to sustainable, profitable growth. People are what motivates me, and my purpose is to create an economy of equal opportunity, one where everyone has the privilege to pursue what drives them. And to do so, we need to solve for the people at the margins, to unite under this singular mission of making the world a better place for us all.
What inspires you to focus your energy on this work?
Oh man, EVERYTHING! As much as I loved the people and the process of innovation consulting, I felt disillusioned by the products of our work: we weren’t making the world a better place; we were distilling such insightful, powerful visions into short-term projects for for-profit companies that simply weren’t value-aligned. To be able to do work now that fulfills me so wholly—work that I truly feel shapes humanity and the ways that we can create together—I am so lucky and grateful to have found my niche. I am so excited by what I do. It’s been a long process of self discovery, but the fact that the work I get paid to do is exactly what I’m passionate about makes me so genuinely happy and driven.
Briefly describe your professional background and core creative skills.
I’m a behavioural economist at heart—in college, I doubled in Neuroeconomics & Geography (with a focus in Geopolitics) and started my career as an innovation consultant, working with Fortune 100s to create new products, develop new ventures, and solve pertinent problems. Strategic foresighting and futures thinking was a major part of this work; I thrive in ambiguity, and love the process of connecting dots across entirely divergent industries. Transitioning to Web3 was a natural evolution of the work I was already doing—moving from dreaming about the future, to literally *creating* the future. Strategy, synthesis, and research are still my favourite things to do, and while I dabble in design, I’m a writer at heart. Storytelling is what I do best, and strategy is what drives my narrative.
What helps you to be successful in a collaborative environment or team?
I’ve been told by many, many mentors that my superpower is how much I care—about people, and things, and moments. The way I work in teams is reflective of that. I know I’m good at connecting people, at bringing communities closer together, and at creating the kinds of dynamics that allow us to work better, together.

Of the roles listed above, which are you most excited to contribute and why?
All of them! I'm excited to work with an early stage DAO because my skillset is so applicable to helping you create that community, but all of these different roles are adjacent and require working on them in tandem. I don't see this so much as sticking to one role as much as it is creating a regenerative system that allows us to all build off one another as we develop the processes pipeline and structure the long-term roadmap for Cohere
