What we’re up against
There is a well-established nexus of organizations working across the country, the state and within our local communities.
The groups in the image above are using school districts to achieve some, or all, of the following objectives:
Install “conservative” members at lower levels of government in order to enact right wing policies and maximize governmental levers available to the Republican Party. Take control of public school districts in order to: Transform them into a vehicles for “conservative” education; Squeeze their finances (typically through the levers of tight control over operating expenditures and increased spending on capital projects, which puts pressure on OPEX budgets); Damage public schools and drive the “school choice” (e.g., school privatization) agenda; Make teaching and serving on a school board unattractive career options; Build a pipeline of “conservative talent” to run for higher office for the Republican Party; Wage “culture wars” in schools and serve what is increasingly looking like an authoritarian policy agenda tightly linked to the Republican Party of Wisconsin’s ; Enact a Trumpian take-over of local government and local parties (e.g., Steve Bannon’s ) Essentially, “take back control” of education ().
