TLDR: What is Songenius?
Songenius is a community-driven project that expands popular QR-code-based card games like Hitster, Songfest!, and Marimic. While these games have achieved massive success, many players are looking for greater variety and depth. This demand is evident in countless online discussions, DIY tutorials, and services attempting to address this gap.
That’s where Songenius comes in. Founded by Deniz Binay and Jannis Tanner of the digital agency bombig.net, the project was born out of their own frustration with the limited options for extending these games. With their experience in design, marketing, and personal roots in subculture, they realized they had many of the tools to tackle this. But they also knew that creating authentic decks for the vast multiverse of music isn’t something you can do alone.
That’s why Songenius was built as a platform where the community plays a central role in shaping what comes next. On
offers the chance to suggest new genres and add songs to shared playlists, forming the foundation for each edition. Users can also dive deep and join discussions to refine the final decks. Songenius isn’t just about creating more cards—it’s about celebrating the diversity of music and bringing people together through shared passion and fun.
For now, Songenius is an experiment. We’ve planned an exciting launch day and a follow-up campaign to build momentum. If enough people get involved, we’re committed to starting production in early 2025. But without sufficient feedback, Songenius won’t happen—this phase is as much about validation as it is about collaboration.
We’re incredibly grateful for your feedback, your help in spreading the word, or simply for being part of this journey.
Timeline
Start Pre-Release Phase (December 2, 2024)
Three days before launch, we’ll begin building anticipation on social media by highlighting the challenges players face with current games, sharing early access feedback, and teasing visuals of the platform. We encourage you to do the same—feel free to notify your channels or share your early thoughts, but please respect the embargo until release.
Public Launch (December 5, at 12:00 pm UTC+1)
At launch, Songenius will open to the public, and our website and community features will officially go live. We’re also releasing the Backstory Article in two formats: a visually engaging Video Essay and a detailed longform article. Both will launch simultaneously. If it’s not too much to ask, we’d love for any content you create to align with the launch.
Launch Party (December 5, at 20:00 pm UTC+1)
Join us on Discord for a livestream celebration! Highlights include a live Q&A with co-founders Deniz Binay and Jannis Tanner, behind-the-scenes insights into the voting and production process, and interactive discussions with the community. To close, we’ll host an open forum for sharing ideas and get to know one another.
Post-Launch Marketing Campaign (Until December 19)
After the public launch, we’ll kick off a broad marketing campaign, including Reddit advertising, community engagement, and a short video series across platforms. Throughout December, our primary goal is to gather enough feedback to determine whether there’s sufficient interest to commit to production in early 2025.
