Pick/ban Preferences: Before starting a match, players select their preferred races (in order of preference) and preferred ban races.
Match-making: Players search for a match in unranked/ranked mode. Once a match is found, players are put into teams, two races are banned (one from each teams preference bans) and each player is assigned a race as per their preference picks.
Astraen Tech Phase: Once a match is found and races are assigned, players go through two rounds of Astraen tech selection. Each player is given the same amount of crystals and must purchase
with it. Each piece of Astraen tech gives additional unique ways to defend your base, enhance your units or assault your opponents.
Match Start
Unit Placement & Positioning: Once in game, each player starts with the same amount of war scraps. On their 'home-world', players research and arrange their selected races units on a hexagonal, grid-based system, emphasizing strategic positioning. Higher-tier units, which take up more grid space, provide additional complexity to this tactical puzzle.
Battle Dynamics: Periodically, a copy of all units on your home-world are sent through a portal to the battleground, where they march down the single-lane map, keeping formation as per their home-world placement (making strategic home-world positioning essential). Both teams units assemble into large hordes as they march towards the opposing teams base, eventually clashing and battling in the center of the map.
Resource Management: Having units deployed over time and destroying enemy units yields 'war scraps' and occasionally 'Biofuel'. These resources are critical for researching and upgrading units and buildings. Players may also scrap units for some of the resources back. At the base, resources may also be spent deploying Astraen Tech to the battlefield.
End-Game
Game Objective: Teams strive to demolish the enemy base. To do so, one teams units must overwhelm the opponents units, pushing down the map and destroying the enemy base.
Astraen Defense Protocol: Each player is given a single-use area-of-effect instant-kill, allowing them to instantly destroy any units within an area within the base. This is your teams last line of defense, allowing you to re-gain control and turn the tides of battle.
Match Rewards: Once a teams base is destroyed, they are defeated. Both teams share in Experience and Unrefined Astraen Crystals, the winners taking most. In a ranked match, both teams progress their quests, their match-making rating is adjusted based on the outcome of the match, and they potentially progress
