How Fascism annexed the Italian urban spaces

In the period between 1922 and 1937, 18,600,000 cubic metres of buildings were destroyed, and 16,500,000 were re-built on as little as half of the original surface.

Why the past cannot go away
This is one reason (but not the only one) that it is so difficult to escape from the Fascist legacy in Italian cities - but also why it is both prominent and hidden away, obvious and subtle.
