The article title must include the keyword.
- If in doubt, best title format is a listicle. E.g. 3 - The first 25 words of the article should be a tight summary of how the reader will benefit by reading the article.
- The introduction should be positive. It’s okay to empathise with a problem the reader might be facing, but it’s better to be positive as this reflects on our product and brand.
- Before the end of the introduction, include between 3 and 5 bullet points that briefly encapsulate what the reader will learn in each section. Must be benefit driven. Don’t duplicate sub-heading text.
- Each sub-heading should contain value for the reader. When they read the sub-heading it should be clear what the section will describe, and there must be a clear benefit. Sub-headings are between 3 and 8 words long.
- The first 12 to 20 words in every section must reiterate the idea, explain further and add factual, relevant details or data. () 8 - One idea. One paragraph.
- Paragraphs are shorter than you think. Then, make them shorter again. Break up slabs of text.
- Does each section contain depth and detail, layering an idea into at least 5 sentences, before moving onto the next idea? () 11 - Include a minimum of 2 lists. Use an ordered list for sequential steps. Use bullet list for a bunch of related ideas.
- Include a minimum of 2 customer reviews or testimonials, usually around 10 to 30 words maximum. Include the reviewer’s name and location. Link their name back to the original source of the quote. E.g. product page
- Include a minimum of 4 unique images that are clearly and deeply related to the text. Overlay explanatory text with or use illustrations, diagrams, charts or product shots. 14 - ALT text of no more than 8 words is included for every image. () 15 - The first link in the article should link to another article in the store blog that is tightly related to the original article.
- The second link in the article should link to another blog article, within the store blog, that is tightly related to the original article.
- If in doubt, think about how Wikipedia does their linking. Follow that model.
- The third and fourth links should link to a category/collection or product page.
- The last links in the article can link to an external website that is a deep and specific authority on the topic of the article and/or product.
- The linking guidelines are not rigid rules. Use commonsense. The idea is to avoid encouraging the reader to visit another website (via links) within the first 1/3 of the article.
- No spelling errors, including client and product names. No grammar errors. Proofread.
- At least 8 useful phrases - for the reader - are highlighted in bold.
- The article is scannable and formatted in an aesthetically pleasing way, without extra spaces between words, line breaks or white space gaps.
- Most importantly, stick to the topic, theme and idea that inhabits the article title. Stick to it throughout the entire text. Cull extra words. Cull unrelated ideas. Be economical with words. Write like .
