1. What impactful impact you want? (what kind of impact you consider to be more suitable for you)
— This of someone (it can be anyone) you admire for the good that they have done? What have they done (or several people and several good things they do)?
— What type of impact is that (or several)?
(Build support structures for everyone, Empower disadvantaged people, Help people closest, Innovation/Inventions, Inspire humanity, Change of political/rules/governance systems, Education, Piece, Health, Infrastructure or something else entirely, how you can categorize this kind of impact?)
— What’s the worth of that type of impact in the world that you like? (meaning what things it brings uniquely, that other's don't or not in that degree)
— What makes that type of impact impactful? (What helps it create impact/bring change (Благодаря чему)?)
— Why does this type of impact appeal to you personally?

Or you can think on these prompts/polarities (there is no right or wrong, remember question above that different type of impact has it's own unique worth):
- this type of impact most important (what makes is such important) or less important
- help more people or help in a greater degree
- change/impact case by case or system change with larger effect
- less resources/money and greater/bigger result, or else (efficient in terms of more impact on every USD)
- can we effectively solve it (we know how to solve it), or it's hard to solve (a lot of resources needed, no knowledge how to solve etc.)
- do we know what the result of solving it looks like, how we can measure it
- you can see results of your work right away (evidence of impact), or it's okay to wait for results
- do local, small issues (close to your home) or tackle global, big one, large scale
- root causes or symptoms
- have strong evidence (higher probability) that this impact/change will bring more net positive effect, or do something with lower probability and risk of not achieving net positive effect
- revolution or evolution
- legal, following rules or else
- impact for close ones, or people who needs it more regardless of their connection to you
- longtermism/longevity of the problem (will it still exist in the future, can it affect future people and how) or shortemism/we focus on current issues only and we do not think of people in future, will they have same issue, in what way, or other issues and what kind of, and how our current events affect them
- focus on yourself, close ones, whole humanity, or expand your moral circle of consideration to focus on animals too, plants, ecosystems?
- neglected issues or most popular (to amplify the effect)
- most pressing ones, or ones that just emerge, but potentially they can be big
- something you want to contribute with money (donations), you yourself want to work (and receive salary) on this issue, and use you skills/knowledge/connections/resources, or you want to volunteer only, or other ways on supporting (consider your current state of life or potentially in the future)

2. what X issue you’re mostly passionated about? why? What issue you find to be important, underserved, and effectively solvable? why?

3. Future studies, Future thinking

— In the next 10 years, do you see the world as getting better or worse?
— Do you feel capable of personally affecting the future?
— Are you pessimist? optimist? do you belive in our/your agency or more in our/your destiny?

But “The future” does not exist.
Futures are continuously and actively being envisioned and created.

Futures Literacy is a capability. It is the skill that allows people to better understand the role of the future in what they see and do.

Being futures literate empowers the imagination, enhances our ability to prepare, recover and invent as changes occur.

4. News headline

Think in regards of your issue X that you're passionated about.
And fill the blanks of the story below:

***
It’s the year 2050. The top story in today’s news reads “____”.

Kim, who is a ____ is reading this news and thinks to themselves “____”.

This news is exciting / not surprising / frustrating /... , because up until now, ____.

“In the end, everybody believes/believed that ____.”, Kim thinks to themselves, as they start going about their day.

***

Example:
It’s the year 2050. The top story in today’s news reads “Last
post office worker hands over their job to an AI assistant”.

Kim, who is one of the few remaining former post office
employee who have still retired due to old age, is reading
this news and thinks to themselves “Uff, I am grateful that
didn’t happen to me shortly before my retirement. Finding
a new job at that age would have been difficult!”.

This news is unsurprising, because this has been a long time
coming and the postal system is actually only one of many
industries that have undergone a rapid transition to
automation.

“In the end, everybody believed that it’s better to let AI do
repetitive labor like that!”, Kim thinks to themselves, as
they start going about their day.

5. Layered analysis. Create alternative futures

Causal Layered Analysis (CLA) is a four level analysis: the surface understanding of an issue (litany, news headline), the causes creating and sustaining the situation (systems, why this is happening), the different perspectives shaping it (actors worldviews) and the underlying stories that might feed it (metaphors).

Your story above has this 4 layers (headline, actors, systems, and metaphors)
— Litany/News headline is the official and generally accepted description of the topic or issue, the so-called surface understanding of the issue. Participants can think of events, trends, or issues largely accepted. Ask them: What is currently happening?
— Systems are social, economic and political structures, actors and policies underlying and maintaining an issue. This responds to the question: why is this happening?
— Worldview of different actors are deeper cultural assumptions and perspectives that enable structures and justify behaviors. It responds to the question: what is true?
— The metaphor or myth layer corresponds to the social narratives and imagery, acting at the level of collective consciousness, usually expressed through art, stories and symbols. These are usually more difficult to express with words. It responds to the question: what are underlying stories/believes that might feed it?

Task: Now from your headline story above or your generally desired impact, try to imagine successful impact headline, and rewrite the story, imagine how systems look, what actors perspectives are, what myths and metaphors feed that impact

You can also look at it (on rewriting the story) from System change perspective

Article: Systemic change: evolving conditions that hold a situation in place

• Systems = Structural change
• Actors worldviews/perspectives = Relational change
• Metaphors/myth = Mental Models/Transformative change

6. Passion/Interests/Solutions vs. Issues/Frustrations

“This notion that you have a passion and you follow, I think it is one of the most destructive ideas that anyone talks about.”
- Bill Burnett

7. Fall in love with a problem, not a solution
- Tackling Heropreneurship, Daniela Papi-Thornton

“Having to understand a problem before you solve it is common sense, but not common practice.”
Daniela Papi-Thornton
