Welcome Intern! ☕️
Get ready for an unforgettable 12-week journey. 🏔️
You're joining Volcanica Coffee at one of the most exciting moments in our brand's history. This internship isn’t just about learning—it’s about building. Together, we’ll be launching our boldest initiative yet: the first-ever Volcanica Coffee Subscription Program—and we’re not stopping there.
We’re also rolling out an all-new . The design is done. Now it's game time and you'll be right in the middle of the action. Do you want to see it? Click here to check out our new design
. We know... you’re probably still rubbing your eyes, wondering how you got here. Maybe your brain hasn’t even processed your first cup of coffee yet. But don’t worry...we plan to make this internship as caffeinated as possible.
You’re stepping into a fast-paced, high-growth environment where ideas move quickly, creativity is king, and there’s no shortage of espresso (or cold brew, or oat milk lattes—we don’t judge).
Over the next 12 weeks, we’ll dive deep into two of the most powerful forces in marketing:
New Customer Acquisition: how we attract, target, and convert first-time buyers. Retention Marketing: how we keep them engaged, loyal, and obsessed. You’ll gain hands-on experience across strategy, execution, and analytics—working directly on real campaigns that launch real products to real customers.
This isn’t an internship where you watch from the sidelines.
This is your seat at the table.
😎 Let’s make this summer unforgettable.
☕️ Let’s make great coffee at home the new normal.
🚀 Let’s launch something legendary.
History
Our Mission
“To bring the world’s most exceptional coffees from volcanic regions directly to customers—while building transparent, ethical relationships with farmers, protecting origin integrity, and delivering an unmatched coffee experience from seed to cup.”
Our Founder
Volcanica Coffee was founded by Maurice Contreras in 2004. He built the website himself, making it one of the first online stores to sell exotic coffee directly to consumers over the internet. The company specializes in sourcing high-quality coffee beans from volcanic regions around the world, which are known for their rich flavor profiles. Volcanica Coffee's innovative approach to e-commerce allowed it to deliver premium coffee directly to customers' homes, setting a standard for online coffee retail.
A seasoned business leader with a strong foundation from the University of Florida, he launched the first iPhone with Apple in 2008 and went on to build a dynamic 20+ year career in corporate telecom. As Regional Director at AT&T, he led high-performing sales operations in Greater Atlanta, driving key strategic transformations. At TracFone Wireless, he was instrumental in scaling the brand to $1 billion in annual sales through innovative marketing and positioning. Earlier in his career, he made his mark at Blockbuster, leading impactful regional campaigns across Florida during the company’s heyday.
The Early Days
The business began with just three core products: Costa Rica, Hawaii Kona, and Jamaica Blue Mountain. Each coffee represented a different part of the world, united by volcanic soil and exceptional quality. Maurice hand-packed each order, answered every customer service email, and roasted in small batches to preserve flavor and freshness. These early coffees laid the foundation for what Volcanica would become. Each bag is a promise of origin, excellence, and care.
A New Vision
Aaron took over the company while still residing in New York City in 2016. He had been working on his own company, HypeWave, after leaving Auburn during his freshman year. With a keen eye for design and a deep understanding of how to scale modern brands, he brought a fresh perspective to the family business. In 2017, Aaron led a complete rebrand of Volcanica Coffee, an inflection point that would forever change the company’s trajectory.
He modernized the website, giving customers a seamless shopping experience that matched the quality of the product. He updated the original 2004 logo to reflect a more refined, premium aesthetic, and redesigned the packaging into a resealable stand-up pouch that better represented the brand’s bold, elevated identity.
Aaron wasn’t just updating a look—he was setting the stage for scale. With his background in startups and product development, he reimagined Volcanica as not just a coffee company, but a premium brand online brand rooted in origin, craft, and experience.

Where We Are Today
Today, Volcanica Coffee operates out of a 15,000 sq. ft. facility in North Atlanta, importing over 5 million pounds of green coffee annually. We source from over 30 countries, roast fresh daily, and deliver premium, specialty-grade coffee to customers across the U.S. and beyond.
Each team member—whether in production, fulfillment, customer service, or marketing—plays a key role in our continued growth and success. We’re more than just a coffee company. We’re storytellers, quality champions, and bridge-builders between the farms we work with and the customers we serve.
Our Farms & How We Work with Producers
We build long-term relationships with farmers who are set up to export. If they don’t have that capability, we partner with local cooperatives to make it happen—no shortcuts, no middlemen stacking costs or confusion. Just clear, ethical sourcing that keeps quality and transparency front and center.
When we work directly with a farm, we pay a premium. Why? Because great coffee starts with great people—and we believe in rewarding that excellence. We also ensure our partners follow strict standards: no child labor, and no conflicting crops that could compromise quality or integrity.
Our strongest supply chain relationships are in Costa Rica and Jamaica. Costa Rica is the backbone of our sourcing operation. Why? It’s safe, organized, and incredibly consistent. It’s like the Disney World of coffee. We loved it so much we opened an office there. Our team uses it as a home base when visiting farms, creating content, learning from producers, and deepening our roots at origin.
We also have deep and ongoing relationships in Tanzania, Indonesia, Brazil, and Colombia—regions that produce some of our most loved coffees. These partnerships help us maintain diversity in our offerings while staying true to the Volcanica standard.
We don’t just buy coffee. We build trust at origin—and that shows up in every cup.

Our Core Values
1. Integrity at Origin
We believe in ethical sourcing, transparency, and long-term relationships.
What this looks like at work: Know where our coffee comes from. Ask questions. Care about the story behind the bean.
2. Bold, But Grounded
We’re adventurous, but we stay rooted in our mission and values.
What this looks like at work: Take initiative, share ideas, and be open to change—while staying aligned with our goals.
3. Quality Over Everything
We don’t cut corners. From green bean to final cup, we obsess over quality.
What this looks like at work: Pay attention to the details—whether you’re roasting, packing, or helping a customer. Creating a campaign? Be methodical in how we communicate to customers.
4. People First
Whether it’s a farmer, a teammate, or a customer-we treat people with respect.
What this looks like at work: Communicate clearly. Listen. Be kind. Show up for others.
4. Own It
We take responsibility and pride in what we do—individually and as a team.
What this looks like at work: If something needs doing, do it. If something goes wrong, learn from it. Take pride in the work you put your name on.
Our Culture
At Volcanica Coffee, we move fast, stay grounded, and look out for each other. We’re a family business at heart, but we operate with the ambition of a high-growth brand—and that energy flows through everything we do.
We value curiosity, initiative, and people who care about the details. Whether you're roasting coffee, packing boxes, filming content, or managing operations, your work matters. Everyone here plays a role in delivering an unforgettable product and experience to our customers.
How we promote a positive team atmosphere:
We keep it human. No corporate fluff. We talk like real people, respect each other’s time, and celebrate wins together. We invest in people. From training and mentorship to new ideas and responsibilities, we want you to grow with us. We lead with trust. We give you the space to own your role—and support when you need it. We stay connected. Whether it’s warehouse huddles, creative brainstorms, or trips to origin, we make time to connect. If you're here, it's because we believe in your potential—and we’re excited to see what you’ll bring to the table.
Hours
This internship is a 12-week program running Monday through Friday, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
We track time using the , which you should’ve signed up for during your initial onboarding. All interns are required to each day. A few important notes:
The Paycor app uses geo-fencing—this means you must be physically at the office to clock in or out. If you forget to clock in or out, notify your supervisor immediately so the adjustment can be made. Consistent and accurate time tracking is essential—both for payroll and for learning how to manage your schedule like a pro. Need help with the app or didn’t receive your login? Just let us know and we’ll get you set up.
Holidays
During your internship, you’ll have the following holidays off. These are recognized company-wide, and no work is expected on these dates:
Spring Break – March 9-13th, 2026 Final Exam Period – April 27th-May 1st, 2026 If any additional national holidays or office closures occur during your internship, we’ll communicate them in advance.
Disability
Volcanica Coffee is committed to creating an inclusive, accessible workplace for everyone. If you have a disability—whether visible or not—we’ll work with you to provide reasonable accommodations that support your ability to contribute, learn, and thrive during your internship.
This could include adjustments to your workspace, flexible tasks, assistive technology, or changes in communication methods—whatever is needed to help you succeed.
If you require an accommodation, please reach out directly to your supervisor or HR. All requests are handled confidentially and with respect.
We’re here to support you. No one should feel held back from doing great work because of a lack of access.
Code of Conduct
At Volcanica Coffee, we expect everyone—interns included—to represent the brand with professionalism, respect, and accountability. You’re part of the team, and how you show up matters.
Here are the basic expectations during your internship:
Be Respectful: Treat everyone—coworkers, supervisors, vendors, and visitors—with professionalism and courtesy. Discrimination, harassment, or inappropriate behavior of any kind won’t be tolerated. Be On Time: Show up ready to work by 9:00 AM, Monday through Friday. Repeated tardiness disrupts the flow of the day and may affect your ability to complete the program successfully. Use Time Wisely: Stay focused and avoid personal distractions (including excessive phone use) during work hours unless on break. Cell Phone: We get it—your phone is always with you. At Volcanica Coffee, cell phones are allowed in the office, but we expect everyone to be mindful about when and how they use them during work hours. Refrain from personal use during your shift. Quick glances are fine, but long texts, personal calls, or social media browsing should wait until breaks or lunch. If you’re dealing with a personal emergency, step away and take care of it. We’d rather you handle it so you can come back focused. Last thing, Absolutely no doom scrolling—we don’t want you getting lost in feeds, TikTok spirals, or group chats during work time. Protect Confidentiality: Interns are expected to keep internal processes, documents, and conversations private. What happens inside the business, stays inside the business. Take Care of Company Property: Whether it’s a computer, a piece of equipment, or a coffee bag, treat everything with care and return it in the condition you received it. Dress Appropriately: Office dress code is business casual. If you're entering the warehouse or production areas, closed-toe shoes and safety gear are required. FMLA / Leave Policy
As a contractor intern, you are not eligible for leave under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) or other formal leave benefits provided to full-time employees.
However, we understand that life happens. If you experience a personal or medical situation that may require time away during your internship, please speak with your supervisor as soon as possible. We’ll review each case individually and do our best to accommodate reasonable time off while maintaining the integrity of the internship program.
Our goal is to support you while also ensuring you get the most out of your time with us.
Employee Policies
If you ever need to reference Volcanica Coffee’s official Employee Handbook or company policies, you can find them directly in your Paycor account under the “Documents” section.
This includes information on:
Harassment and anti-discrimination Dress code and office expectations If you’re unsure where to find something or have questions about any policy, don’t hesitate to reach out to your supervisor or HR. We’re here to help.
Non-Discrimination
Volcanica Coffee is an equal opportunity workplace. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, or any other protected characteristic under federal, state, or local law.
We’re committed to creating an inclusive environment where everyone is treated with dignity and respect—interns included. All team members are expected to uphold these values and contribute to a culture of fairness and equity.
If you ever experience or witness behavior that violates this policy, please speak with your supervisor or HR immediately. We take every concern seriously and will address it promptly and confidentially.
Paid Time Off (PTO)
You are not eligible for paid time off (PTO) during the 12-week internship program. However, we understand that occasional absences may arise—please communicate with your supervisor in advance if you need time off, and we’ll do our best to accommodate when possible.
For your awareness, full-time employees at Volcanica Coffee become eligible for PTO after 60 days of employment. In their first year, they receive two weeks of paid vacation, and that amount increases with tenure.
Our goal is to support long-term growth and work-life balance for everyone on our team—including those just getting started.
Remote Work Policy
This internship is in-office only. We operate out of the beautiful New Venture Accelerator—a space built to inspire collaboration, creativity, and momentum (and funded by our tuition dollars, so let’s make the most of it).
Interns are expected to be on-site Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Remote work is not permitted unless it’s a rare exception approved in advance by your supervisor.
We encourage you to find a morning routine that works for you—one that helps you show up energized and ready to dive in. Being physically present is part of what makes this experience valuable. Ideas flow faster, problems get solved sooner, and we grow stronger as a team when we’re in the same room.
