VVANNA Challenge Source Sheet

Docs 4 Tofu

Introduction

The design relies on two spreadsheets:

a /

This is where you enter all the information for the Chapters, Stages & basic details like what Tags & Palettes to choose.

b /

This is where you go to do the final setup for the Chapters, by creating a separate Sheet tab for them & adding notes like which colours in a Palette work or what items are needed to clear.

Starting with the Source Sheet

1 / Adding Chapters

When a new Chapter comes out, head to the tab to input the newest one; pretty straight-forward!

2 / Adding More Stages

If there are Stage #s past what has already been inputted based on previous Chapters, enter those on the tab.

3 / Entering the Challenges

This process has two steps:

a / Entering Info

After you’re done with Adding Chapters and/or Adding More Stages, head to the tab to input all new Chapter(s) & Stage(s) & all their relevant info.
The interface on there should be pretty straightforward:
but you can use the I setup to make your life easier (see below),
and hover over the Header row (Row #1) for the prompts on how to enter the info.
Main thing to note is to choose either Use Palettes: or See notes. for any Tag & Item Type Challenges.
There’s also a Sheet tab at the very right end you can keep open in another window to reference the Palette choices.

b / Configure Destination

When you’re all finished with Entering Info, go to the to finish up.

1 / Using the Template

On the bottom tool-bar, click on the little hamburger menu to the right of the [+] on the far-left.
A menu will pop-up that allows you to easily see all the Sheets (separate tabs) on that file, including the hidden ones.
Click on the one at the very top that says MASTER TEMPLATE.
A box will pop-up, asking if you’re sure that you want to make edits; go head & click OK .
You can check the “Don’t show this again for 5 minutes” while we work.

Then, on the MASTER TEMPLATE tab, click on the down-caret at the right & select “Duplicate”.
DO NOT EDIT THE TEMPLATE ITSELF.
When you’re done duplicating, click on the down-caret again & select Hide sheet this time on the master sheet.

2 / Linking the New Chapter

Rename the new copied sheet to the Chapter #.
I’ve been going with the 000 naming convention, as that was long enough that clicking on the tabs wasn’t annoying, but short enough to give you some space on the bottom bar for what will eventually be many chapters.
Then, in the top-left hand corner, there's a drop-down; simply choose the new Chapter from the list*. MAGIC ✨

*Don’t change anything else on this sheet; the script I wrote will do all the work for you. Touching anything but the notations will screw up the formulas behind it.

3 / Adding Notations

To add additional information like specific Palette colours & items that work, use the “Insert note” feature.
Simply right click a cell to select the function; then type in the Palette colours or the relevant items in the pop-up.

4 / Logging Updates

When you're done for the day, head back to the main ⟣ Select Chapter ⟣ tab to indicate what you changed.
Click on to choose a new one.

Then, & make a quick note of what you added.

Linking the Guide

Public facing cheat-sheet lives here:
The benefit of this URL is that it’s a wrapper for the Destination Sheet; if we ever make a new copy of that I can just change where the iFrame redirects to without any ✨ interruptions in service ✨.

Editing Chapters & Info

a / Edit Existing Stages

If you need to change something like a Tag or check-off additional Palettes (like in Chapters 17 & 18 which I set up but didn’t have the info for), do that on the Source Sheet.
Use the
@! Chapter Filter
to locate the row and make the changes there.
Then, head back to the Destination Sheet, locate the sheets for Chapter(s) you just changed & use the Tofu Menu on each of them:

The “Tofu Menu” is a set of custom scripts I wrote bound to the spreadsheet that powers the automatic Chapter retrieval call you just saw above in Linking the New Chapter.
The Refresh Current Sheet’s Chapter button manually pushes the changes so that the Chapter sheet you’re on reviews the new Palettes & makes the columns or any added Stages visible; the stuff like Descriptions & Tags from previously existing Stages sync automatically by the time you’ve loaded the Destination Sheet.
Sometimes the menu will take a minute to become visible when you first open up the sheet as it’s building the options in the background when you initially load it.

You can use the options in the Yush Menu too without messing up anything, but they’re just the granular versions of what the Refresh is doing I left available for my trouble-shooting while I was creating it.

b / Add Missing Stages

filled-star
If you missed a Stage in a Chapter, the best thing to do is actually use the
@! Blank Slots
filter to add a new row at the bottom instead of inserting one where the other Stages are for that Chapter since the function that pushes the sync to the Destination Sheet does some weird things with Too Many Row Creations(tm) if you make more rows.
Use the
@! Chapter Filter
instead to group Stages by Chapter.
You can reorder the rows while in the Chapter Filter by clicking on the # of the row at the left-most side & dragging it up or down; the positions will translate over to the Destination Sheet.
Use the Refresh Current Sheet’s Chapter button mentioned just above on the Chapter(s) in the Destination Sheet you just changed when you’re done to pull in the new Stage rows & any added Palettes.
