Uber's App Redesign Project Doc

The story of Yuhki and Yixin creating the tracker to end all trackers.

About this doc

Uber used Coda to plan, coordinate, and execute one of their largest driver app redesign projects to date. Hundreds of people - including product managers, engineers, marketing teams, and executives - used a version of this doc for over a year to manage the feature development process and milestone tracking.

This doc revolves on three major concepts ー Teams (the people doing the feature work), Milestones (the major gates to full launch), and Features (the individual work items). These concepts are linked together so you can quickly see how features are progressing against your timelines. You’ll also find a Funding Tracker, which can be used to quickly surface any features which are in danger of slipping given lack of resources to deliver it.

About the Maker

Yuhki Yamashita

A patron saint of Coda, Yuhki is the original architect of the tracker to end all trackers, which launched Uber’s ambitious Project Carbon. His trust in Coda pushed our product to higher performance, and gave us the momentum and confidence to launch out of beta.

Yixin Zhu

Yixin, co-creator of one the largest docs ever made, is a renaissance Product man, and the fastest study of our formula language we’ve ever seen. Every time we see a pie chart formula in Coda, we say a little prayer for Yixin.
