Guiding Principles

SOME GUIDING PRINCIPLES OUR FIREWISE COMMUNITY MAY ADOPT: All information is for educational purposes only.
A) COMMUNITY EDUCATION, NOT ENFORCEMENT.
B) TEAM APPROACH: ACTIVE COLLABORATION WITH NEIGHBORS, LOCAL FIRE, POLICE, EMERGENCY OFFICIALS AND THE EAST BAY REGIONAL PARK DISTRICT (EBRPD) FIRE DEPARTMENT.
C) EMPHASIS ON RESILIENCE PLANNING--NOT JUST DISASTER RESPONSE.
D) ONGOING ADVOCACY ON TOPICS SUCH AS INSURANCE CANCELLATIONS AND ALTERNATIVE OPTIONS, POSSIBLE GRANTS FOR FUEL REDUCTION, EVACUATION OPTIONS, PGE POLE UPGRADES AND REPLACEMENTS.
E) USING EDUCATION TO REDUCE HOMEOWNER PROCRASTINATION ON CRUCIAL ISSUES YOU ARE WILLING TO DO BUT PERHAPS HAVE BEEN TOO BUSY OR DON’T HAVE ENOUGH INFORMATION.
F) ENCOURAGING ACTIVE NEIGHBORHOOD PARTICIPATION TO HELP US REACH OUR GOAL OF RESILENCE, FIRE SAFETY, DISASTER PLANNING AND RESPONSE. PARTICIPATION IS NOT REQUIRED.
G) SHARING KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS VIA VOLUNTEER RESILIENCE TEAMS WITH VARIOUS TYPES OF EXPERTISE THAT CAN PROVIDE FREE ADVICE/GUIDANCE TO OUR NEIGHBORS ON TOPICS SUCH AS HOME HARDENING, FUEL REDUCTION, DISASTER EMERGENCY RESPONSE, SUBSCRIBING TO ALL COMMUNITY DISASTER ALERTS, ETC.
H) RECRUITMENT OF WILDCAT FIREWISE COMMUNITY RESIDENTS WHO HAVE NOT HEARD ABOUT US AND THUS WILL NOT RECEIVE NOTICES OF OUR EVENTS, ZOOM MEETINGS, RESOURCES, EXPERT PRESENTATIONS AND ADVICE, ETC.
