SSE Leadership Programme: Ceremony and Altered States of Consciousness

Expanding the Solution Space

A 1.5-day immersion within the Stockholm School of Economics Executive Leadership Programme
August 27–28, 2025 – Campus Kämpasten, Sigtuna
The premiere of “Expanding the Solution Space” within the Stockholm School of Economics Executive Education’s Executive Leadership Programme invited senior leaders to step beyond the boundaries of conventional reasoning — into the wider field of imagination, perception, and presence.
Over the course of a day and a half, participants explored altered states of consciousness within a ceremonial and embodied setting — practices designed not to escape reality, but to perceive it more deeply. The work wove together nature connection, reflective dialogue, silence, movement, and symbolic action as ways to enter new modes of knowing.
Participants described their experiences: “Altered states of consciousness are completely natural to us humans. We’ve just forgotten how to talk about them in our culture.” “I will use nature more consciously as a partner for deeper problem-solving.” “I’ve realized the importance of formulating the right question.” “I’ve started to find my way out of a challenging and complex situation.”
At the heart of this module lies a simple premise:
The leaders of the future must learn to move between imagination and analysis, between bodily perception and thought, to sense what is emerging when familiar answers fall short.
Facilitated by Åsa Björnberg and Ylva Björnberg, the immersion brought together decades of experience from futures studies, organizational psychology, and imagination and perception training. Their shared inquiry: What becomes possible when leadership is grounded in presence, reciprocity, and imagination?
