Case: Spring Ceremony, A Recurring Ritual of Renewal and Transformation
Facilitator: Ylva Björnberg
Location: Vrångö Island, Southern Archipelago of Gothenburg, Sweden
Participants: Small group of women (recurring community)
Theme: Personal Transformation and the Arrival of Summer
Initiated and co-led by Ylva Björnberg together with the participants, the Spring Ceremony has become an annual ritual of transformation. Over three days, participants are invited to set intentions for the coming season, weaving together inner work, nature connection, and collective reflection.
The ceremony begins with the opening of a shared altar, a living center for the weekend, where each participant places one or more symbolic objects representing her intention. Throughout the weekend, walking dialogues serve as embodied reflections: participants draw each other’s conversation cards and engage in slow, mindful walks across the island’s cliffs, beaches, and meadows.
Meals are prepared together as an extension of the ritual, using local, seasonal ingredients to nourish both body and spirit. Each act, walking, cooking, sharing, becomes part of the ceremonial field, blurring the boundary between the sacred and the everyday.
The Spring Ceremony offers a deep sense of presence and connection, generating both personal clarity and collective renewal. Participants return year after year, describing the experience as a grounding anchor in their lives and a way to realign with nature’s cycles, one another, and their own unfolding transformation.
