What plants need to stay alive
Plants are living organism.
CHARACTERISTICS OF LIVING ORGANISM:
Respiration (not necessarily breathing) For short, this is “Mrs. Gren “→ a way for you to remember it easier.
Back to what plants needs to stay alive, all plants need water, light, nutrition, gases from the air and minerals.
Gases would from the air, and sunlight would get absorbed by leaves, water and minerals by the roots, and at a point they get mixed with each other.
Photosynthesis:
Photosynthesis is a process when plants converts from sunlight, water, gases from the air and minerals to “plant food”. Plants makes their own food, so they are called autotrophic.
Carbohydrates are what they are called (or carbs), this is a type of sugar that would go around the plant’s body to keep it alive → called transportation. Other sugars is glucose and starch.
How do we know that the food they make is enough:
1) It is a source of energy
→ Used as a fuel for cellular respiration
→ Cellular respiration provides the energy needed for their life processes in the plant
!!! In Mrs. Gren, everything needs respiration to “work” !!!
2) It’s a source of a materials for growth and repair
→ Carbohydrates are made of the elements Carbon, Hydrogen, and Oxygen
→ These elements are combined with other minerals to make protein and fat
Food elements
Carbohydrates → CHO
Fats → CHO
Protein → CHON
C = Carbon || H = Hydrogen || O = Oxygen || N - Nitrogen
During day time, the plants absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen. While at night, photosynthesis stops and the stomata - tiny holes of plant leaves that exchanges O2 and CO2- closes. Then the plants absorb oxygen and releases carbon dioxide ← This is called Cellular Respiration.
