Cuticle
Solid Lubricate or Surface → a layer of wax to prevent water from evaporating.
Upper Epidermis
Protective cells on top of all the cells in a leaf, doesn’t do anything and no photosynthesis
Palisade Mesophyll
Main photosynthesis takes place here.
Spongy Mesophyll
Loose, so reactants can travel through and access the palisade mesophyll, but also does photosynthesis itself too, as it contains chloroplasts.
Lower Epidermis
Same as upper epidermis, just on the bottom of the leaves
Guard Cell
-Open and close the stoma to keep water from going out
-Stoma or hole in the leaf’s surface leads to space between cells
-Almost always open unless they need to save water
Carbon dioxide gas to move into the leaf for photosynthesis
Waste oxygen made by photosynthesis to move out of the leaf
