WHAT IS A VIVID VISION

A Vivid Vision is a powerful 5-6 page document that paints a vivid description of what your company looks like, feels like, and acts like three years into the future as if it’s already happened.
The tool will help you attract top talent, align your current team, stay focused, and keep yourself motivated… even in the most challenging circumstances.
You have a big vision for your company, and you want to get your whole team on board.
As the entrepreneur, CEO, or founder, it’s your job to design what the future of your company looks like. And to make it crystal clear, so your team, shareholders, and clients can get on board to help you turn that vision into a reality.
You know that: A business that knows where it’s going is more likely to get there.
Whatever challenges you’re facing in your business right now…
Team members or contractors who constantly ask you what to do each step of the way so you’re not able to focus on running the company…
Top team members leave to work at other companies, or great employees don’t choose to work with you…
You want to scale, yet you get dragged into the day-to-day “how” and have to micromanage because the team can’t see the BIG picture…
Or, maybe you’ve got a clear vision of where you want to go in your head, but you have a hard time communicating it in a way that’s inspiring and motivating to others…
A Vivid Vision can help you.
It’s a powerful tool to attract top talent, align your current team, stay focused, and keep yourself motivated… even in the most challenging circumstances.
It will help you make your company’s future a place you and your team want to visit.
Imagine you step into a time machine and arrive on December 31st, three years into the future.
What does your company need to look, feel, and act like three years out to be a place you and everyone else wants to visit?
Would you be excited to visit your future if:
You double, triple, or even 10x your revenue?
Systems and processes are so tight that when you leave on family vacation you know you don’t have to check your phone because everything is running smoothly?
Your company is listed as a Top Place To Work and written up in the
Harvard Business Review, Forbes, Inc. Magazine, etc.?
You have a self-managing team with top talent that takes just as much responsibility in growing your company as you do?
Investors are so bought into your vision that they’re happy to hand over the funding you need so you can scale faster?
You create a powerful legacy that will live on and impact team members, clients, and the community for years to come?
...Then the Vivid Vision is the most important document your company is missing.
And it can help you achieve all that (and often even more) in three years or less.
When you and your team can clearly see, feel, and experience your vision, everyone and everything will begin to move in that direction.
Because words matter. Literally. By putting your vision into words, it will begin to turn into your reality.

ORIGIN OF THE VIVID VISION

This Is The Document That Helped One Company Grow To $100M, Get Featured On Oprah, And Be Written Up In The Harvard Business Review… All In Only 3 Years
There’s a saying that goes, “There are entrepreneurs that have been in business ten years… and others that have repeated the same year ten times.”
That’s exactly where CEO Brian Scudamore and COO Cameron Herold found themselves with 1-800-GOT-JUNK? years ago.
It was 1997, and their revenue had stalled at $1M for eight years. They didn’t know what to do.
Until they learned about a visualization technique that Olympic athletes use where they visualize themselves winning the gold medal ahead of time.
They thought, “If Olympic athletes do this, why don’t we?”
So they sat down and created what is now called a Vivid Vision.
Brian sat down and created what we now call a Vivid Vision®. He called it a Painted Picture.
Cameron joined him as COO and in just a few years the company went on to…
Turn into a $100M multinational company… Appear on Oprah…
Be featured in the Harvard Business Review…
And be listed as the #2 workplace culture in Canada.

HOW TO BEGIN TO CREATE YOUR VIVID VISION

Go somewhere where you’re inspired, somewhere around nature with no laptop, iPhone, or computer. Just you, a notebook, and a pen. Allow your mind to drift. Allow your mind to dream. Allow your mind to think about the company three years into the future. Start picturing yourself already there.
Pretend you hopped into a time machine and stepped out three years into the future. You get out of the time machine and walk around your company: What do you see? What do you feel? What do you hear? Get as specific as possible. Remember, you’re writing down what you see NOT how you got there.
Use the Vivid Vision Mindmap to help you start brainstorming some ideas.

VIVID VISION MINDMAP

In this guide you’ll find a template you can print off and use. Simply jot down points as they come to you. It will prompt you to think about areas of your business like:
What are your customers saying about your company?
What are employees saying?
What is the media writing about you?
What do Operations look & feel like?
How about Marketing?
Sales?
Culture?
Remember to write in the present tense, as if it’s already come true. You don’t have to write a ton of numbers or metrics. It’s less about specific measurables and more of a qualitative description. For this part of the process focus on bullet points and jotting down the ideas that pass through your mind that you would love. Don’t worry about writing full sentences right now.

TEMPLATE & QUESTION PROMPTS

To help you through this process, I’ve provided some question prompts to think about in each of the sections you expand upon in your Vivid Vision. Use the prompts as a launchpad to jot down ideas and notes and create more clarity for yourself and those you share your Vivid Vision with.
From there you’re ready to create your first draft.
