2021 Annual Review (Karthik Puvvada)

My Reflections

What are you most proud of?
embracing my new identity as a dad which involved growing into a more patient, non-judgmental and composed human than all my previous years
doing the above while also pushing myself in my career to take ambitious shots on new projects/initiatives like below:
launching and growing into a high NPS positive-sum community
starting my own
writing my first e-book:
Who are the three people who influenced you the most?
Who are the three people helped you the most?
My wife (Devin)
What were you not able to accomplish?
Growing my Twitter audience to 50k (but that’s ok, I’m happy with the current progress given the kind of crazy busy year I had!)
Growing my newsletter audience to 10k (same as above)
Ship a few meaty no-code projects to add to my
What is the best thing you have discovered about yourself?
That I can be a terrific advisor and coach for founders
That I was given a natural gift/talent of public speaking
That I didn’t need to be perfect to build a strong network
That no one exactly is like me and I get to own this new trail/path and craft my own story
That slowing down to make time for your family is okay
What are you most grateful for?
My health and mental well-being
My wonderful wife and our little prince (baby Neil!)
My supportive, reassuring and loving family
My job at On Deck that allows to influence and impact hundreds of founders and builders
Hundreds of kind people I came across within all the programs of On Deck
The Internet that enables so much of my career
The kind followers and audience I was able to attract in 2021

Learnings

What were your biggest learnings?
Did you learn a new skill?
Did you learn anything new about people, culture, or life?
1
💼 Work and Business
99% building a community is about attracting other like-minded givers
2
🌀 Emotions & Spirituality
I learned it’s very difficult to find time, you have to make time for things like meditation, exercise etc
3
🏄‍♂️ Sports, Fun and Hobbies
learned that even those who seem like experts are just ‘advanced beginners’ and there’s nothing I can’t accomplish if I set up modest expectations, keep an open mind like a beginner and execute consisntently (learned this from my podcast and content experiments)

Challenges

Did you have any failures you learned from?
Something you were working on that didn’t work?
1
👪 Life, Friends and Family
the first 2-3 months of being a dad was so hard, all the late nights, diaper changes, fussy stints .. but I learned to embrace it and dig deep into the patience reservoir I didn’t think I had
2
💼 Work and Business
was stressed a little during May-June period about constant changes in the market and our evolution of the fellowship but it taught me to be less attached to the specifics and be more aligned to the mission
3
🌀 Emotions & Spirituality
struggled to keep my favorite habit of gratitude journaling but it taught me that I need to prioritize things that matter ahead of time before the week kicks in
